Does your odometer work? Didn't think so. The OEM odometer gears that VDO used on our gauges were made out of a styrene based plastic that breaks down over time with exposure to the little dab of grease that was used when they were installed. Some people claim that the odometer stops working if you press the reset while the car is in motion. This is not the cause of the problem , it only gives the already decomposing gear a little extra stress that makes it break into pieces.
